COACHING AT KIRRIEMUIR
At Kirriemuir Golf Club we are proud of our fast
growing reputation as a centre for coaching excellence led by our Head
Professional Karyn Dallas

When Karyn (pictured above) arrived in 1999 she
told us of her ambition to develop a coaching programme, which would be
second to none. It didn’t take long, within two years our juniors has
secured three of the four Angus County titles and today we have over 200
juniors on the coaching programme.
Karyn left her national post in 2006 to focus on
her research and the juniors at Kirriemuir. Karyn feels the time is right
as we have a large number of juniors featuring at county level where we
secured the top eight slots in the Angus Junior Boys Order of Merit in
2006.
PGA Professional Karyn joined us at Kirriemuir after spending four
years as a tour player and five as a professional at the world famous,
Gleneagles Hotel, where she became teaching co-ordinator – responsible
for establishing the coaching methods used by the hotels professionals.
After leaving Gleneagles Karyn made her own coaching video, Winning Ways
for Women Golfers, which was the number one selling ladies coaching
video in the UK for two consecutive years.
In 2001, our coach was asked to develop coaching programme for the
Scottish Ladies Teams and five years on the Scottish U18 Girls Team won
the Home Internationals by the biggest margin in history. Even more
remarkable is that the entire team is available in 2007 and five of the
six will still be available in 2008.
At a senior level we have many scratch golfers travelling from all
over the country to work on the programme and L.E.T. Professionals Lynne
Kenny and Claire Queen are quick to point to the contribution our
coaching programme had to their progress. This year we sent three more
players to Tour School but unfortunately all failed at the last hurdle.
However, we anticipate we will have five players attending tour school
in 2007.
COACHING EQUIPMENT
In
keeping with our desire to be a leading coaching establishment we invest
heavily in the latest coaching technology
Tempo Analysis
This is probably the last secret, in golf, to be
exposed. Research has shown that the world’s best players have similar
timings during their golf swing. Using the latest timing devises we can
analyse, and hopefully improve, your tempo. This is used in conjunction
with Tour Tempo audio tapes which teach the player the timing of the
worlds top players

Putting Analysis
We are one of only a few coaching centres, in
Scotland, to have a Sam PuttLab. The equipment enables us to scrutinise
your putting stroke and to suggest minute changes, which could shave
strokes off your handicap.

Video Analysis
Using computerised video equipment we can track
your progress or compare you to the worlds best players.
You can even have a DVD of your lesson for a small
extra charge
RESEARCH
Kirriemuir Golf Club is proud to be the home of
the Total Golf research programme from which our golf programmes have
emerged. In 2003 Montrose Golf Links adopted our programmes and three
year later they too have over 200 juniors on their programme.
The research is into all areas of golf and in 2005
our clubmaker was named as the Scottish Clubmaker of the year. Our
research, into the rules and how best to teach them, has resulted in
programmes to teach rules to students as young as five.
On the psychology front our extensive research
into the behaviour and routines of tour professional has resulted in a
five stage programme which teaches players how to understand and control
their emotions on the golf course.
In 2006 we worked closely with Napier Universities
Biomechanics department to better understand the key movements in the golf
swing. This research run in conjunction with our research into the rhythm
and timing of the swing.
Our research continues
