Hole 1 - Lochnagar -
Par 4 - SI 6
Drive slightly right of the marker post.
Approach shot should be played to the front right of the green as the
ball will run to the centre from there.
Hole 2 - Simpson’s -
Par 3 - SI 16
Aim for the centre of the green to set up a
birdie chance for any pin position. Take plenty of club to miss the two
greenside bunkers.
Hole 3 - Migvie -
Par 4 - SI 1
Drive in line with the fir tree left of the
marker. Unless very wet take one club less for approach, two if
downwind. Aim for right half of the green. Note the pin position at 8th
on the way past.
Hole 4 - Muirhouses -
Par 4 - SI 9
Drive on the cottage just left of the marker
post. The approach shot can either be played to the middle of the green
or played 15yds short. Check pin position on the 6th on the way past.
Beware of the fairway bunker 250yds off the tee.
Hole 5 - Neuk -
Par 4 - SI 14 Aim
at the fairway bunker on the left. The green slopes left to right, don’t
leave yourself a downhill putt here.
Hole 6 - Dogleg -
Par 4 - SI 3 The
drive should be slightly to the right of the marker post. Take an extra
club for the approach shot to this elevated green.
Hole 7 - Woodside -
Par 4 - SI 12 Drive
on the roof of the shelter on the next tee. The approach shot can be a
chip and run shot downhill onto a relatively flat green.
Hole 8 - Quarry -
Par 4 - SI 17 Take
enough club to carry to the back centre of the green. The greenside
bunkers are a severe penalty for misjudgment.
Hole 9 - Knowehead -
Par 4 - SI 8 The
gap between the two fairway bunkers must be found if a par or better is
to be put on the score card. The green slopes severely from back to
front.
Hole 10 - Kate’s Wood -
Par 4 - SI 13
Aim slightly to the right of the marker as the
fairway slopes to the left. The approach shot with a short iron must be
played to the right half of the green.
Hole 11 - Catlaw -
Par 4 - SI 10 Consider
an iron off this tee as the fairway opens out at 190yds. Take an extra
club for the approach shot to this front to back sloping green.
Hole 12 - Dell -
Par 4 - SI 4 The
drive should be on the middle of the fairway bunkers in the distance.
The approach shot should be front left, but beware of the nearby ditch.
Hole 13 - Ditches -
Par 4 - SI 2 Drive
on the green shelter on the right up by the green. The elevated green
adds approximately 20yds to the approach shot so take plenty of club
Hole 14 - Monument -
Par 4 - SI 7 Aim on
the marker post, beware of the narrow, 2 tier green, favour the front
left.
Hole 15 - Caddam -
Par 4 - SI 15 An
iron from the tee will pay dividends on this narrow par 4. Be sure to
carry the small rough gully short of the green. Green slopes from front
to back
Hole 16 - Broomeknowe -
Par 3 - SI 18 A
tricky elevated green which plays 10yds longer than the card suggests.
Hole 17 - Braid’s Gem -
Par 3 - SI 11 A
real “gem”, aim to hit the front left of the green to set up a par
or better.
Hole 18 - Hame -
Par 4 - SI 5 A
magnificent finishing hole. Put the drive left of the tree to give any
chance of hitting the green in two. A deep gully 50yds short of the
green must be carried to set up a par or better for the card.
