Hole 1 - Lochnagar - S.I 6
As with any course it's important to get off to a good start. The marker is the ideal line into the first hole. There's no chance if you miss the fairway left off the tee, so the bail out is right. A good drive to the marker sets you up for a full shot with a wedge or a 9 iron into a green that runs front to back.

Hole 2 - Simpson's - S.I 16
A lot depends on the wind at the second so watch the tops of the trees. There is out of bounds far left of the green, which is protected at all sides by bunkers. There's more space over the left bunker than the right so take enough club and don't push it. The green slopes back to front making a cross green putt tricky.

Hole 3 - Migvie - S.I 1
This hole measures the longest on the course so hit driver. The ideal line is the marker post although big hitters(290 yds+) may wish to go just right of this to avoid running out of fairway. Bunkers lie in wait both sides of the fairway for any player who fails to hit the ball over 200yds off the tee. The green slopes front to back and is protected with bunkers although there is more room on the right. Take a club less because the second half of the hole plays slightly downhill.

Hole 4 - Muirhouses - S.I 9
This hole is all about staying in play off the tee so don't go right or you'll have to reload. Aim for the small farm cottage in the distance for the ideal line. The locals will tell you to land the ball short of the green and let it roll down the slope onto the putting surface. Avoid going long as the green falls away and a tricky pitch back up the hill awaits.

Hole 5 - Neuk - S.I 14
Out of bounds right this hole can either ruin or make your score. The bottom of the slope is a good drive for most, but bigger hitters can go for the green. The green is protected by bunkers short and left, but there is a passage just left of the front bunkers. The green is severely undulating sloping from back left to front right, so try to leave yourself an uphill putt or you could be looking at three.

Hole 6 - Dogleg - S.I 3
A dogleg right, which plays longer than the yardage suggests. The ideal line is in between the bunker and the marker post although if you're brave you can take on the corner and fly the bunker for the ultimate line. The second shot is uphill so take plenty of club and try to avoid turning the ball over left. The green slopes back to front so avoid backspin or you could be chipping for your third.

Hole 7 - Woodside - S.I 12
This short par four plays the easiest on the course and is an opportunity to pick up shots. Definitely drivable with a good drive or even a 3 wood for big guns; the ideal line is just right of the grass knole in the distance. The fairway descends to the green, which sits lower than the fairway. The green is quite flat with run off right and long.

Hole 8 - Quarry - S.I 17
The second of four par threes; this is a real test. The tee shot must clear a gully and two bunkers short of the green, so make sure it's up! The difference between the pin being at the front or back is a whole club. The green has two tiers sloping back to front, so it's helpful to know where the pin is.

Hole 9 - Knowehead - S.I 8
The ninth is a tough tee shot with bunkers left and right so you'll have to hit it straight. Broom right and left makes it very easy to lose a ball so aim for the marker. The green is a small target and slopes back to front-right so an uphill putt is a big advantage.

Hole 10 - Kate's Wood - S.I 13
The tenth is a fairly straight forward hole. A good tee shot will leave you a wedge into the green. The green slopes front to back-left. Any shot unlucky enough to run through the green will find a severe slope leading down to rough, so don't go long.

Hole 11 - Catlaw - S.I 10
The Eleventh is all about the tee shot, find the fairway and the hardest part of the job is done. Longer hitters may wish to take a rescue club or a long iron off the tee unless you can hit a draw. The green slopes back to front and the front bunker, well short of the green, makes it difficult to judge the approach shot so make sure you have enough club.

Hole 12 - Dell - S.I 4
The twelfth plays one of the hardest holes on the course as it's stroke index suggests. The tee shot is definitely driver unless you can reach the bunker in the distance. The green is guarded left with trees and a lateral water hazard; and right with out of bounds so it's important to be straight. The green is a small target, but presents a good chance for birdie if you can hit it.

Hole 13 - Ditches - S.I 2
The Thirteenth plays one of the hardest holes on the course. A ditch running through the middle of the fairway diagonally from back left, so keep your drive the left side of the fairway. The green is blocked left by a big tree, so the option is eaither to fly it or aim for the right of the green. The hole is made especially hard by the putting surface which is elevated to a plateau green that slopes left to right.

Hole 14 - Monument - S.I 7
The Fourteenth is a dogleg right, so it pays if you can hit a fade. There are gorse bushes right of the fairway. The green is placed well back from the bunker in front of the green and is one of the smallest targets on the course and the approach shot should favour left of the pin. It is narrow sloping from back to front and has two tiers.

Hole 15 - Caddam - S.I 15
The 15th presents a good chance to pick up shots before the end of the round. A drive down the middle will set up a short pitch to the green, which is protected short by a deep bunker. The green slopes back to front and if the hole is cut at the front the first putt could be a difficult one should you go long, but if you get too cute you'll be playing from the beach.

Hole 16 - Broomeknowe - S.I 18
This is the third par three and definitely the easiest at just 119 Yds. The green is elevated and protected by bunkers, so if you get the club right this will be a good opportunity for a birdie.
- 195 Yds
- 189 Yds

Hole 17 - Braid's Gem - S.I 11
This is the last par 3 and presents arguably the toughest test to make par. The Hole is flanked with massive mature trees and the green is elevated although the hole plays downhill. The front of the green is protected by bunkers and the back has gorse and trees. In the summer when the greens get hard and fast it becomes increasingly difficult to hold the green even if you hit it, so a high ball flight is mandatory.
- 388 Yds
- 385 Yds
- 380 Yds
Hole 18 - Hame - S.I 5
The last hole on the course is a beauty. The right of the fairway is protected with an Oak tree and for long hitters there is a bunker at around 280 Yds in
the middle. For your second shot a decision has to be made, should you go for the green and try to carry the gully in front of the green or lay up short?
If you go for it it's all carry and plays slightly longer than the yardage suggests into a green that slopes back to front.
Now it's time for a rewarding drink in the clubhouse
